Merry AFTER Christmas everyone!!! Oh my word. I can't believe how longs it's been since I've posted! Insane.

As I do every year, my parents and I drove down to Columbus OH to spend Christmas with Aunts, Uncles, and cousins..........

We opened presents in the morning :)

Which tired the dogs right out :)

Sweet Sophie :) My cousin's puppy. She was so tired, she fell asleep in the usual puppy fashion.....wherever she happened to be at the moment, which was right on top of Kody's head :) So cute!!!

I curled my hair with the spiral curling iron I got for Christmas from my mommy and Daddy! Yay!! I love it :) ♥

In September, I auditions for "A Christmas Carol" as usual. This year, I sang "On my own" from Les mis(love that song!!!!)

No surprises there, until I got a call back, and they asked me to be Martha Cratchet!!!!!! WHAT'S UP! Yay!!!!!! I was so excited, I'm still a little excited, actually :).

My mom auditioned, too, and she got a part in the Chorus, which is exactly what she wanted. She's going to wear the blue dress I made two years ago, and she looks great in it :)

Well, sort of. And GUESS WHAT! It's not with Allison!{Sorry. I probably should have warned you to sit down before I said that}

Ha ha! So the other day, Zakk, Adam, myself, and our mothers met at a really cute coffee shop bearing my last name {though, sadly, we are no relation}. And, as the moms talked and sipped coffee, the boys and I walked around the town. And because I "just so happened" to have brought my camera, and because these awesome guys never say no to a little photo shoot, we thought we'd have a little fun..........

Hey dude! Yay! It's your birthday, and you're 17!! Sheesh. We're old. :) I just wanted to say that you are the best friend a girl could have! You're so much fun, and I love how you go right along with me when I want to randomly burst into song and dance in totally public places. I love how you know every single word to every song that may happen to pop into my head at those moments! I love how you can choreograph impromptu dance moves to "Don't stop believing", and, even though they may be super silly and not the least bit flattering, you do them with all your heart! :) I love that you embrace that no one can sing " Eye of the Tiger" well, and so just belt out the words in all your off-key glory.{Y'all know I'm doin' it right along with her!} I love that we can have a totally unplanned photo shoot in your back yard, and you always look fantastic! I love that we can talk about anything for hours, even if it's stupid and WAY teenage girl.

But most of all, I love that you are my friend!

This past week, my friend Adam, who is an amazing piano player, was asked to help sell pianos for a local company at our county fair by playing for an hour. Working as a team

I'm not sure if I already told y'all this, so I'm gonna say it again. I am part of 4-H. If you don't know what that is, you'll have to google it, because I can't explain it.

ANYWHO. One of the activities one does in 4-H is something called "team invention". Basically, you and two of your closest 4-H pals get together to form a group. Then, said team is given a non-descript paper bag full of random stuff, a rectangle piece of cardboard, and a 45 minute timeline. Once you and your teammates area given the above supplies, an adult gives you one last thing. A theme, and guidelines. In this case, the only guidelines are to create something according to your theme, and you must use what is in the bag, and ONLY what's in the bag.

For this challenge, the theme was "Michigan Traditions". {the 4-H group I belong to is in Monroe}

So, for the first few of the 45 minutes allotted to us, my teammates{yup, you guessed it! Enter the infamous Zakk and Adam} brainstormed, and, after discarding several ideas, including a secret military base and something else I'd rather not mention, we decided on making a farm. For those of you who live in or have been to Michigan, you will know that Michigan is big farm country.

Exactly 40 minutes later, the three of us stepped back to admire our handy-work. So, enough chit-chat. Let's get to some pictures!!!

You can't really see it, but inside the barn, there are two horses, in their own stalls. One eating hay, and the other peaking his head out from behind the wall. SWEET!!! That was totally Adam's idea. bravo, my friend.

Part of the requirement was that our project needed our team number and the name of each team member

Apparently, we named the farm "Grim Reaper Farms". Yeah. Zakk named the farm.

Well, now all that's left to do is wait to find out what the judges think of our farm. All I can say is, I'm really glad we decided not to make the Monroe county fair{which hosts the 4-H activities}, because when I was looking around at other projects, I noticed several dozen county fairs, and about three other farms, none as awesome as ours, if I do say so myself. :)

I thought it was important to do one last post on the visiting caterpillars, as they will be going home any day now. I will miss you, caterpillars, but I know your "mother" is anxious to see you again!

Almost all the kids are in their Chrysalis now, and it's kind of funny to see them all hanging there! It was so funny, in fact, I decided to take pictures, so you, my readers, could enjoy the site, too! Aren't I nice?!

The roof of the mesh cages are COVERED in the little green beauties!

I saw for the first time ever a caterpillar turn into a chrysalis. Even after raising caterpillars all last summer, and even into early fall, I never once saw one change, but this year, I saw almost all of the little darlings change! It was so gross! But also way cool. I'll spare you the details. Those who haven't raised their own butterflies wouldn't understand....It may be gross, but it's totally worth it.

It's so hard to say goodbye to my little charges, but I'm ready to get you back where you belong, and go on to the next adventure!

A Thrifty find

Actually, I bought this last summer, but it didn't fit. But it was so cute, and only 50 cents, so I just had to have it! And now, {hoorah!) It fits!!!! YAY!! Don't you just love it? I'm so excited to have a summer 1860's dress{or 1970's, depending on whether or not you want to wear the petticoat} Someone actually made this dress, it wasn't made in a factory, which, I thought was extra cool.

It's got some pretty cool detail too.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching the caterpillars. They are so funny! For instance, all the caterpillars gang up on a single milkweed plant, demolish it, and move on to the next one. A couple days ago, there were so many on a flimsy little plant, that the weight was making it tip over!

I would also like to draw your attention to the "leaf" below. This is what the eensy caterpillars do to their milkweed leaves. The big ones eat the whole thing, flower, stem and all. Pigs.

The Elder-Beerman in my area is currently having a major sale. Everything is dirt cheap on sale, because they need to make room for......I hesitate to say it.....FALL. There. I said it. And now I feel filthy, and in need of a shower. Excuse me.

O.K. I'm back, clean, and ready to tell my story. So, like I said, everything was WAY on sale, and as I was looking around aimlessly, I spotted this really cute leather jacket, and, making a beeline straight for it, I fell in love. But my love was hindered when I noticed the price tag. $100. There was no way. But then....BUT THEN!!! I saw the best sign I have ever read. The sign read "All jackets $15." And I was like WHA?!?!? And, after my ecstatic screaming ceased, I found my size, and ran through the entire store, in search of my mother. And the rest is history......

So, I know I can't wear it for at least two months, but I don't care! It was too darn cheap, and cute to pass up!

It's that time of year again!!!! You veterans of my blog will know that I mean CATERPILLARS!!!
Right now, I don't have any of my own, but I'm babysitting some 50 caterpillars and 6 butterflies for friends while they are on vacation. I've actually had these guys for almost a week, but this is the first chance I've had to post about them. So I'll concentrate on the intro in this post, and I'll update you on everyone's size and condition in the next one. Sound good? Cool.

This is the set-up we've got going on in our dining room. The three shorter mesh cages are caterpillars, ranging from small{as in ennsy-weensy, barely see them} in the cage closest to the camera, to large at the back. The tall cage sticking up in the middle is full of butterflies.

This time around, I have a few painted ladies, as well as Monarchs. Painted ladies like hollyhock, and their eggs are blue, rather than white.

2011 homeschool prom

Well, Hello! How ya been? Long time, no see, and all that. What up, home dawg? Ha, ha!

Hey, sorry for the over-long absence. Don't worry, I have already punished myself. Grounded for three days and no desserts. LOL I do apologize. The last two Mondays have been just ridicules, but those days are over now, and I can get back to my inspirational Mondays!!! Yayayayayay!

For the past couple weeks, I have been painfully obsessed with vintage-style summer dresses. I will quite literally sit here in front of my best friend, Mr. Computer{say hi to the kids, computer: "Hi, kids!"}internet-shopping and pining for those lovely dresses! **SIGH** {Author goes slightly limp as she stares off into the distance........."Erin, ERIN!!!!"} AH! What?! Oh, did I zone out? Sorry. Hee, hee, enough with my pathetic obsessions. Let's look at some pictures, shall we? Good.

The hobbit.......It's been a long time coming

Hello all! Yes, yes. It's been ages. And I know that I missed yet another Inspirational Monday, and I apologize. Long story short, I left the house Monday morning at 9:00 am, and did not return until around 8:30 in the evening, and did not feel much like doing anything.

And now, on to more interesting things! I'm sure you will remember the Lord of the Rig trilogy? I am not usually interested in films from that period{sort of medieval with a touch of the mystical} mostly because no one is EVER clean!!! :/ But I found the Lord of the ring to be highly entertaining, with a good story, great costumes, and fight scenes that at least stood up to my over-active imagination. And now, for all you Tolkien fans out there, "The Hobbit" has now begun filming! You'll excuse me while I fling my arms up to the sky and shout "Well, it's about TIME!!!"

O.K. All better. As a young child of about 11, I read "The Hobbit" for the first time, and have since read and re-read it another dozen times at least. A bit obsessive? Perhaps. highly enjoyable? Definitely.

As one final note, For those of you who don't already know, but might be interested to discover, Richard Armitage has been cast to play one of the dwarfs, Thorin Oakenshield, I believe{If you don't already know the story and its characters, Thorin is king of the dwarfs}. Yay!! I didn't forget to do an inspirational post on inspirational Monday! Again, I'm sorry I forgot last week.

I've been thinking a lot about Broadway musicals lately, getting "wicked" songs stuck in my head, and to top it off, a couple weeks ago, PBS broadcasted the Les Miz concert, and I've had "one day more" running through my head ever since, which is annoying, since I don't know any of the words. Not that that's a bad thing, I do so love to sing Broadway songs at the top of my lungs as I do my chores around the house, especially when I vacuum, that way no one else can hear me belting out "Dear officer Krumpkee", thank goodness!

I hope you all have been inspired to go around the house singing "Memory" at the top of your lungs!

Aren't you psyched?! I know I am!!! I'll be making the one in the bottom right corner, with the wicked awesome sleeves. Though I have never been thrilled with the medieval time period as I have been with others, those fantasy sleeves just make me want to dance with joy! I'm so happy I finally get to make my own fairy dress! Before long, I'll be wearing flowers in my long, flowing hair as I stroll through the forest, filled with mythical creatures. Sounds fun, no?

Ha ha! my post title sounds like a chapter name from a turn-of-the-century novel!

A couple of weeks ago, I participated in a 4-H event, taking a class in computers, clay ornament making, and CHOCOLATE!!!!! Needless to say, that last one takes the cake, as they say.

In my chocolate-making class, we made turtles{or frogs} with tiny sugar eyes, chocolate suckers, and a 3D solid chocolate farm animal. Unfortunately, I ate my 3d chick before I thought to take a picture of it. But it tasted so good!! I did, however, manage to restrain myself long enough to take pictures of everything else!

On a completely different note, It has been warm for the past three days here! My mom and I took walks every night!!! It was great! The warm weather seems to be slowing down now, however. Too bad. I was really getting used to it.

O.K. So it's not a real story. Actually, this was last week's literature project on the book "Animal farm" by George Orwell. I found it to be very interesting and thought provoking. It's not a large book, only 10 chapters, and the wording isn't too hard to understand, which was a nice change to what we have previously been reading in that class{for example, we are currently reading "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis}

This video stars, well, me, and my two friends, Zakk and Adam.{Zakk is the "off-camera voice, and he was also our real camera man}

If you've never heard of Animal farm, here's a short summary:

Animal Farm is George Orwell's satire on equality, where all barnyard animals live free from their human masters' tyranny. Inspired to rebel by Major, an old boar, animals on Mr. Jones' Manor Farm embrace Animalism and stage a revolution to achieve an idealistic state of justice and progress. A power-hungry pig, Napoleon, becomes a totalitarian dictator who leads the Animal Farm into "All Animals Are Equal / But Some Are More Equal Than Others" oppression.

To be perfectly honest, the story is more interesting than this summary leads you to believe. However, it does give an accurate picture of the plot.

Yesterday my mom and I got manicures as a super-dy duper-dy late birthday present{for me} Neither of us had ever done that before, and let me tell you, it was GREAT!!!! I never really understood the appeal of manicures before yesterday{other than the obvious:looks. Not overly important to me} But then I saw my nails, now I'm a believer!!!!

My mom's polish has been described as pixie dust. I tend to agree

History night

Not too long ago, my homeschool group held what we call "History night". Basically, each child will pick a time period{or specific person/event in history} and create an elaborate report on that topic. I say elaborate, because it's not just an essay, it's a display board, food, costume, and sometimes, a skit. The whole thing is pretty big, and I think this year's history night was the best we've ever had.........and that's saying a lot! Two years ago, I had a mini drive-in movie theatre as part of my report. Cool, right?

See what I mean about it being elaborate? The girl who did the 1950's had an ice cream shop, complete with laminate checkerboard flooring, swing music, and, of course, ICE CREAM!!!! And the little wright brother would twirl his little painted on mustache while he talked {AWWWW!}
Annie Oakley showed me and entire show of her shooting tricks, finishing with the one where she is riding her horse and shoots a moving target while she herself is moving. The kids really went all-out this year. I was very impressed!!!

My dad took these pictures of my sister, who now has two kids of her own. I think they look like something from a parenting magazine, don't you? I mean, they're so clear and cute!!!! That poor cat. LOL

This is me. I'm just a few weeks old here.

This HAS to be one of my favorite baby pictures. See? I was a camera hog from birth, and I can prove it! LOL

Me again, a few months old. I think there are a thousand pictures of baby me playing with the top of my bottle. My mom says she would take the top off that thing and I would sleep with just the lid of my bottle. :)

A walk down memory lane....part 1

Well, really, it's a first-time walk for you guys, because they're my memories{some of them}. My dad and I were going through our endless boxes of pictures earlier, and we had a great time laughing at all the awkward perms and "baby's first bath" pictures of my brothers and sisters. I had so much fun, I just had to share some of my discoveries with you!!!

These are my grandparents{my mom's parents} I really love this picture, mostly because of my grandma's dress and my grandpa's making a funny face!

Baby mommy. As I look at it, I really see myself here. But you can be the judge of that!

It stars Jimmy Stewart, one of my all-time favorite actors!} and I will take some pictures then.

I did, however, manage to photograph my outfit for that night{afterwords, of course, because I didn't bring the camera to the movie}

Tomorrow night, my mom and I are going to a local old school theatre, called the Valentine, to see Casablanca. I'm really excited about going! The Valentine has been having classic movie nights for the past month, and, excepting Gone with the wind and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, I haven't missed one!

I have seen every move the Valentine is showing before, but being in a vintage theatre, sitting in a box seat reminiscent of "The Phantom of the opera", eating popcorn and candy bars that cost a total of $2, just seems to make everything better.

I'll take my camera with me, and get some pictures, if you would like to see them!

dream sewing list

I have been thinking a lot lately of possible future sewing projects{Especially after successfully completing my Emma dress, I am all encouraged and inspired}

After scouring the pattern sites, I have compiled a list of things I would like to make this year. Obviously, due mostly to lack of skill and experience, this is an unrealistic list, but, hey, a girl can dream, can't she?!

Butterick patterns has a new line of retro patterns that I am completely in love with. These are my favorites:

I am ashamed to say that I am woefully behind on my apron collection. In fact, I don't have any. I'm in the process of making one, but I have been hand-sewing it in front of the tv{I like to do that sometimes, when I'm not drawing} and it's been a work in progress for going on two months now. I also really like it when one can buy multiple patterns in one. I'm really cheap, and so this concept appeals to my penny-pinching side. Plus, I think you can cover nearly every era in this one package.

Isn't this dress beautiful? When I make this one, I plan to make it the exact shade of blue as in the pattern picture. I'm not usually fond of the fabric choices of the pattern pictures. They look Halloween store products, which, let's face it, they're junk. But this one is different. Not only does it look professional, but it looks good on the model.

There's something about medieval dresses that just really inspires me. I see one and my mind instantly goes to fair maidens with long flowing hair adorned with wildflowers, strolling through a wood to meet her chivalrous prince charming on horseback{a white horse, of course!} I wait impatiently for the day when I can put this dress one, and reenact the scene I have just described, possibly while singing "Love story" by Taylor Swift, at the top of my voice!

All the above patterns have been for costumes, mostly because I only have a desire to sew things I cannot easily find in the store, and, as I have had a great deal of luck in clothing shopping, I have no real need to sew my own wardrobe. Now, well-made costumes are hard to come by, and costumes that are pretty and fit my body and taste perfectly are nearly impossible, so I have a much larger costume list than every day wardrobe list. however, I have always been overly fond of those apron-style skirts, which, oddly enough, are hard to find at a length that doesn't make one blush. I plan to make a couple, probably following a similar pattern to this, but lengthen the hemline to the knee. Sound like a good plan?

In other words.....Be On the Look Out for appletree production's newest project, Alice. Based on the children's book by Lewis Carroll, we have put a modern twist on this classic tale.

It's not out yet, and I can't give you a precise date as to when it will, but I wanted to give y'all a head's up. Sort of a sneak peek, if you will. And, as with all sneak peeks, here is a tid-bit of useless, but very interesting and possibly entertaining information about the process:

No, this isn't what you think. I actually have never watched the Oscars in my life, and I really don't have the intention to, but the other night I was watching television, and I saw the first promo for the upcoming Oscars, and it was so funny, I just HAD to find it and share it with you all! Seriously, this almost made me want to watch the Oscars this year!!!

Inspiration Monday....January 31 2011

GUESS WHAT! It's Inspiration Monday!!!! Aren't you excited?! Yeah, I didn't think so......

Let's get started! My inspiration for this week is:

What is it about Vintage luggage that is so photogenic?! I mean it's just luggage, but I just love to look at it :)

This picture makes me think of Romeo and Juliet. Crazy, right?! It's a piano with a flower on it! But it's just so pretty and romantic, and I think that piano music is the prettiest thing one can put on paper. It's just so elegant, no?

Paris and the color red just seem to go together.

Looking at this picture makes me feel like Charlie walking in to Willy Wonka's factory for the first time! LOL

Red hair. Something I've always wanted. Those out there with red hair, you lucky bunch, treasure what you've got, because there are VERY few girls with all manor of other hair colors who would LOVE to have what you probably hate. I am one of those girls.

Taylor Swift. I love her hair, I love her cute little dresses, and I love her songs. They tell such great stories, and I love songs that tell stories. I also think she's SUPER pretty

Doesn't this just make you want to go out, purchase a vintage-looking suit case, put on your favorite dress and have a photo shoot on some random flight of stairs?

I know I said this last Monday, but I LOVE built-in bookshelves. Someday, when I'm rich and living in some sprawling mansion in Sunny California, my house shall be riddled with shelves such as these{complete with those sweet rolling ladders! I've always wanted to ride on one!}

Well, I suppose that's all the inspiration I can fit into one post, so, what say you, can we pick this up next week? Cool, I'll see you then!

As I danced through time

This past Saturday night, two friends and I participated in "A dance through time", an event held at a local college as a fund raiser for various charities. The entertainment, much like the television show "Dancing with the stars" includes a number of dances performed by a prominent member of the community, such as the mayor, along with their partner, a member of one of the many local dance groups. The audience votes for each person by giving money to whatever charity that person is collecting for, and the person with the most money collected wins. There are also twelve "celebrity" judges who give their scores as well.Along with my two friends, {from l to r}Kara, Julia and I was a volunteer, collecting the judges votes and taking them to the people who would count them and decide a winner, handing out awards to the participants, and aiding the coat checker afterward. I had so much fun, and I got to wear my new Emma dress!!

After the event was over, we got a little carried away......

All in all, it was a enjoyable, long, eventful night, full of running back and forth in uncomfortable shoes and a pretty dress, laughs with friends, and a maxed out camera memory card!!

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's inspirational monday, but that's going to have wait 'till next Monday, after I've had time to find some truly inspiring photos

So I was reading cori's blog, and she had just posted about this really need picture editing website called BeFunky. i trust her, so I thought I'd go check it out, and, let me just say oh. my. WORD. COOLEST SITE EVER!!!! Look at all the cool things you can do to your photos!!!

And those are just three of the pictures I re-did in roughly ten minutes!! The site is free, and you get dozens of styles to work with, and then you can add texts, frames, you name it!

Two songs that make me cry.......

Here are the music videos for two songs that make me cry{and I've seen them about a hundred times} They are both really good songs, so, even if you don't like songs that make you cry, I suggest listening to them anyway.

The first is "Just a dream" By Carrie Underwood

The second is "Mine" by Taylor Swift

Before you make any assumptions, I am NOT a fan of country music, these both just happen to be sung by country music singers. I am, however, a big fan of Taylor Swift's music, but, then again, she's not super country. Neither is Carrie Underwood. Maybe that's why I like thsee songs go much.

Also, I find it very entertaining that both singers are wearing SUPER cute dresses{even if the first video is so tear-jerkingly symbolic}
